Moving - Job Offer!

January 26th, 2012 at 12:52 am

Hi all!

I am happy to report that I was offered a job in WA. This is great news! We will bring in more than we are now, and will be able to rent our own place. I will be performing apartment maintenance.

In order to complete this move, however, we will have to deplete our savings account (which is currently at $1,650) to zero. Ack! I have made a budget, and it looks as though we may even be forced to use the credit card.

While this is not at ALL what I want to do, I feel that it would be stupid of us NOT to. I will be making money right off the bat, will have full benefits within three months, and will be making even more as the years go on, as I will have plenty of room and opportunity for growth and promotion.

I will be working with my wife's uncle and his friend. Her uncle has been in the industry for over 10 years, while his friend - former assistant - started where I am, and became a supervisor within three years, and is now making $22/hr and gets free rent.

The planning is going well. We need to get our dog fixed before moving, and she decided that today was a good day to go into heat. Ack! Her appointment is on the 6th, so she will still be in heat then. We may have to pay the extra $25 to have it done while she is still in heat.

Anyways, wish us luck! You should be hearing more from me, as we will have much more going on. Smile

That's great news! You and your family need your own place. Now you and the mrs. can create a safe, peaceful environment for yourselves and your little one. Smile

Congratulations! I know that this move will be much better for your family. And a little on the credit card is okay. Just don't charge more than you have to get there. Hopefully you can pay it off quickly, too.

We should be able to do well. gasbuddy.com's Trip Advisor is saying that we should only have to spend $100 on fuel, but I have budgeted $250. You never know!

And yes, you're right - it will be an amazing change and definitely very much needed! I plan to stick with this career - I could retire from it, especially with the employer match. Wink

I shouldn't have to charge even half of the limit, so that should be good. I will be deferring my $51/mo tuition payment as well, so that will help.

Awe I'm happy for you. Some time we take a few steps back in order to move forward. I too will be depleting my savings when I move; however, it's for something better than what I currently have.

    Good luck

Of course I'm biased, but Washington is a beautiful state to live in. And Seattle (it is Seattle, right?) is a real jewel of a city. There is so much to do and see and the vistas can be quite breathtaking.

We have been to Seattle. It is absolutely amazing! Portland, of course, is better. Hehe. ;P

This is most definitely a step UP. It may be pretty rough for the first month or two, but we will come out on top!

We will be in Renton. Right off 405, on Lake Washington. Smile

Congratulations! I of course am partial to Portland myself Smile but Seattle is a great city too....we have friends in Kent and we travel up there several times a year for soccer tournaments.....have a safe trip!

Portland is a lovely city, too, I agree. Although I'm still biased towards my corner of Washington, which is even prettier than Seattle or Portland!

When I moved, I had to put a little on the credit card, too, but I paid it off quickly. It's worth it, getting a new start!

Ahead of the curve... hah hah. I notice that when you move you will be the 3rd SA blogger in Seattle. Portland is pretty, and you would be only about 3-4 hrs away from it.

Oh, and getting away from the pot, cat feces, and strange family members is a WORTHY use of the credit card.
